I work for a large company, but my boyfriend is a student. His student coverage is not very good (he has a chronic condition that requires many doctor’s visits), so he has to purchase additional insurance on his own. He has been unable to find affordable health insurance with premiums ranging from $150 – $200 per month (a lot for a student!). We live in Illinois which has a public health insurance option, but the premiums for that plan are as much as $300 per month. It has gotten to the point where we are considering marriage so that he can be added to my employer’s group plan.
