Not long ago, some colleagues and I were discussing the Avian Flu. Someone asked how it comes to be taken by domesticated birds. The truth of the matter is that it initially comes from wild birds that are carrying the illness. Wild fowl can actually be carriers and never become ill. However, they can pass it on to other birds, including domesticated birds that are being raised in large numbers in captivity. The best thing to do when there is an outbreak is to confine the domestics in an enclosed shelter where it would be very difficult for a wild bird to reach them.
